They say those who plant trees believe in tomorrow; and indeed, watering, pruning and taking care of plants an trees with the hope that they will grow healthy to beautify your outdoor space is a faith in a better tomorrow. They are the Earth’s endless effort to speak to the listening Heaven. But in case you are looking to bring the look of your yard to a superior level by planting different plants and trees, you’ll have to have at least some basic knowledge in the whole process of taking care of them.
When is the best time for planting trees? Spring and fall definitely. These are the ideal seasons as during these periods trees are either already preparing for winter after shredding their leaves, or are still in a state of rest. While most trees do not need much attention after planting them, ornamental ones require pruning so that they are supplied with enough air and light.
But it is high time you went beyond planting the conventional types of trees that can be seen in every other yard and do it the modern way; just type in “ornamental trees Australia” and you will discover a wide array of choices to pick from. And a pretty colourful palette of choices that is. Let’s take a look at some of my personal favourites.
Acer Palmatum ‘Atropurpureum’
Small, bushy and purple! What better ornament could you ask for your garden? This little cutie can grow up to a height of about 4-8 meters and it can also spread about 4-8 meters. Its real magic is that it changes its leaves colour in autumn from purple to red. Ornamental trees Australia experts claim that the most suitable environment for this type of ornamental tree to grow in is a moist but well-drained soil. If necessary, water it during summertime. Its leaf colour will be at its best if it is partially shaded, but then again it would still thrive even if fully exposed to sun.
The Prunus ‘Kanzan’
How about placing a heavenly crown of gorgeously pink-coloured blooms in some of the corners of your well-decorated yard? And imagine this: you waking up on an early morning, having your coffee on that vintage coffee table you so long wanted to get under the smell and sight of this natural beauty? Positivity overload. This is a medium-sized tree that is stiffly vase-shaped when young, it grows about 8-12 metres in length and spreads wider than 8 metres. This means only one thing – a stunningly beautiful wide shade to spend your days under.
Fraxinus excelsior ‘Aurea’
This attractive, hardy, medium-sized and rounded ash tree in a gorgeous pale yellow foliage in spring which turns to pale green in summer and gold in autumn would be the perfect addition to your yard if you are looking for a different type of natural shade to enjoy under. It can act as the focal point in your garden design as its unique beauty is not something that could go unnoticed. This beauty has a moderate growth rate – it reaches up to 7m height and it spreads about 7m in full sun locations. It is tolerant of most soil types and conditions, but it best thrives in moist, deep soil.
