LED Downlights: The Suggested Lighting for Modern, Energy-Efficient Homes

It is safe to say that most of us are aware that good lighting is essential for creating a beautiful and welcoming home. Through the proper use of different light fittings and creating layers of light, you can set the mood for exactly what the occasion demands, thus creating a stylish impact, and of course, increasing the safety and functionality of your home. When it comes to picking the right lights for your home that are energy-efficient and versatile for both practical and decorative purposes, there is one type that ticks all the boxes – downlights LED.

Versatile

When combined in great number, LED downlights can provide sufficient illumination for larger areas. At the same time, they don’t create clutter or take up space as pendant lights or lamps do. That’s because the recessed nature of some downlights (which are easily installed into the ceiling itself) allows for a more modern and low-profile look. When arranging downlights for general lighting purposes, make sure to properly calculate the downlight spacing in order to illuminate the room properly. Also, convenience-wise, you want to use LEDs with high lumen outputs in frequent areas while dimmable LEDs would work perfectly for when you need to set up a more cosy atmosphere such as when you want to spend a romantic night in the dining room.

Looking at yourself in the mirror while washing or shaving your face would be much easier if there is a light source that provides clear lighting. The same thing goes for the kitchen where chopping and dicing is involved – you want to have functional lighting on the upper cabinets that’s illuminating your workspace so that you know what you’re doing. Light sources like pendants are not the most appropriate choice for this purpose since their light streams break up before reaching their destination. Downlights LED, on the other hand, emit light that resembles a waterfall stream falling from the ceiling so they are unbeatable when it comes to choosing task lighting for increasing your productivity. Just remember to position the task lighting at a good angle to prevent shadows from interfering with the task at hand.

It’s commonly known that we people are attracted to things that are beautiful and well designed. That is precisely the reason why we like to decorate our homes with things like art paintings, antiques, furniture, statues, and plants. But these elements can’t really be seen in their full potential without the right lighting. On that note, nothing creates a point of visual interest quite like downlights. Just like a spotlight on a scene, one or a few downlights LED placed above or behind the object can really accent it and add to its presence.

Energy-Efficient

Apart from the above-mentioned purposes, downlights LED are being adopted by many homeowners for being an energy-efficient solution.

As human population is growing (we are already more than 7 billion) and natural resources are declining, the use of electrical power might become one of the biggest problems in the world in the future. This is why it goes almost without saying that when it comes to the source of light for your home, choosing energy-efficient bulbs is the best course of action you can take. On that note, LEDs are your best bet.

They consume low amounts of power, or to be more precise up to 90% less power than incandescent light bulbs. Traditional light bulbs simply heat up a piece of wire in an inert atmosphere, so their primary conversion of electrical energy results in heat – they radiate light and warmth at the same time. But LEDs emit very little heat compared to incandescent and CFLs bulbs and are therefore more energy-efficient.

Since they use less energy, you can also lower your electricity bills and save money. But money and energy are also saved in maintenance and replacement costs. LED bulbs have a longer life expectancy (compared to traditional bulbs that only live 1000h, LEDs live up to 25.000 to 50.000 hours) thus eliminate the frequent need for bulb changes and make for a long term investment.

Apart from lowering your electricity bills, LEDs can reduce your carbon footprint as well. As you’ve probably heard by now, the greenhouse effect is spreading fast and we all must be careful with our electricity consumption. These bulbs usually use less power for the given application, compared to halogen or fluorescent ones. This helps reduce the overall electricity consumption resulting in a reduction of the CO2 emission, which is considered the main reason for global warming.

With all this being said, it’s easy to see why lighting homes with LED technology is more of a necessity than a choice and it’s becoming the way of the future with so many people switching to LED lighting both at home and about everywhere else.
