Plants For Hot Weather
Thyme
If you are looking to plant anything in warmer weather then you should consider planting thyme. It is aromatic and you can even collect it to put in your food once it starts to grow. You can plant thyme almost anywhere including containers, flower beds, and along borders. You can even plant thyme in between stones or pavers along your garden path. You want to make sure that the soil is dry and well drained.
Sedums
Now I’m not referring to the tall kind, sedums also come in 6cm tall varieties as well. The sedum forms a nice, thick, and dense mat with plenty of great leaves and stems. They also bloom in all sorts of different colours including orange, yellow, purple, red, pink, and white. Another great thing about this kind of sedum is that it is versatile and will bloom almost anywhere including hot spots.
Blue Chalk Sticks
Another great choice for particular hot gardens that might not have a lot of shade is blue chalk sticks. They are succulent and great with a blue-green colour to them. They even bloom in the summer with white flowers which look lovely. These ground cover plants really do prefer the sunlight but you can plant them anywhere that is only partially sunny as well. Sweet Woodruff
This is definitely a type of ground cover plant that really does well in the shade. It looks great underneath trees or in garden beds, especially when it blooms small white flowers. It is super green and behaves quite well, meaning you won’t spend that much time grooming it.
Bishop’s Weed
If you are looking for something that is going to grow and spread really fast then you can’t go past bishop’s weed. If you don’t want to plant multiple types of ground cover plants then choose this one as it will take up the majority of the space. It does great between building, on sidewalks, and in contained areas. It is thick and luscious which really looks great once it’s fully grown.
Lamium
This is a great choice if you want to add some light to a dark corner or maybe mix it with a darker foliage. It spreads fast and does best in the shade like the bishop’s weed and sweet woodruff. And remember that you shouldn’t place it somewhere it might get walked all over though as it’s not as tough as some other ground cover plants.
